MintzTech Connect: All Things Technology — December 2023

Dear Readers,

It remains a market of contradictions in the private company financing world. Clearly, there has been a pricing reset in many sectors. For companies that are not yet cash flow positive and looking to finance Series B (or later) rounds, it is a very challenging market. That said, we continue to see robust activity in Series Seed and Series A financings, and with valuations generally shifted downwards, it may be a remarkable time to invest in new businesses. Additionally, there is a lot of chatter and activity related to applications using generative AI; we are clearly in the early innings of a technology that will be transformative for many sectors and indeed how we all may conduct business.

As a law firm focused on technology, we continue to see strong growth in our own enterprise, and we are proud to lead off this edition with a recent update about our firm. Mintz has boldly expanded into Toronto and the fit with our current practice has been extraordinary. We very much appreciate the support we continue to receive from each and every one of our clients and friends. We have had eight record years in a row and are optimistic looking forward.

Our second article relates to President Biden’s executive order on Artificial Intelligence. Generative AI will be transformative to enterprises and we at Mintz are laser focused on the implications for enterprises and for users generally.

Our Spotlight feature is on Natalie White, Founder of Moolah Kicks, the first basketball shoe brand focused solely on women. Natalie was recently recognized as a “30 under 30” by Forbes and we have been fortunate to have worked with Natalie from day one. Go Natalie!!!

We round out this edition with a podcast from our “Client Corner” with an interview of Ridhi Tariyal, Co-founder & CEO of NextGen Jane.
