Updated: New York City Looks to Expand its Paid Sick Leave Law Before it Takes Effect in April 2014
Written by Michael Arnold
Today, as expected, the City Council formally introduced a bill to amend its existing paid sick leave law. You can access the proposed amendments here. As previously reported, the bill aims to, among other things, extend the Earned Sick Time Act's paid sick leave requirements to employers with five or more employees, expand the definition of "family member," and become effective for all employers on April 1, 2014 - just a little over two months from now. New York City Employers who haven't reviewed and revised their existing sick leave (and other PTO) policies should do so now to ensure compliance with the law come April.
