Complimentary CLEs
Mintz’s events and training sessions can expand your knowledge base and provide CLE credit. In that regard, we are pleased to offer a free online CLE to our alumni every week. Each Friday, you will receive Practicing Law Institute (PLI)’s “Free Fridays” program of the week, typically good for 1.0 CLE credit. The recipient simply has to follow the directions included within the weekly emails and will have access to the program for one year.

I will recall with fondness the kindness, care, and attention I received during my first baker's-dozen years at Mintz. I grew up — professionally and personally — at Mintz. Mintz was there for me on one of the happiest days of my life (there were two tables full of Mintz colleagues at my wedding) and one of my darkest (Bob Popeo visiting with me to offer comfort and perspective after my uncle's suicide). I also fondly recall my many interactions with Richard Mintz, starting with my earliest: lunch my first week at the firm. We went for sushi, and Richard ordered sake with his meal. I knew then and there I was at the right firm.

My time at Mintz made me a better lawyer and opened new career paths that I would never have imagined. The skills I learned both through hands-on experience and in Mintz’s excellent associate training programs gave me the confidence to take on new challenges without hesitation. Working for a trade association that represents hundreds of small businesses, I have the opportunity both to advocate on federal policy issues and to help my members navigate their regulatory obligations. My mentors at Mintz took a personal interest in my career development and made sure that I was prepared for the future, no matter which direction I took.

I learned how to be a lawyer at Mintz, and I learned the importance of client service. My mentors gave me not just a legal apprenticeship, but an appreciation for listening to clients and working collaboratively to solve their business problems. One of the most important opportunities I got was to serve as outside counsel, general counsel, and eventually chairman of the National Network to End Domestic Violence, which was incorporated in one of our conference rooms. Pro bono work was deeply embedded in the firm’s culture and values.
Managing Associate General Counsel at Verizon Business
Not only am I an in-house attorney, but I am also a business partner helping my business unit, Verizon Enterprise Solutions, compete in a highly competitive environment. My team works side-by-side at the table with our Sales and Business clients, so we are an integral part of the overall deal. I manage a team that negotiates complex agreements in support of our large financial enterprise customers. With each customer comes a different challenge, from the basic terms and conditions under which we provide our services, to the more complex legal issues our banking customers face, such as intellectual property, service warranties, indemnification, privacy, and data and network security. I work with both domestic and global commercial enterprise customers.

We enjoyed being able to reconnect in person at a long-overdue, rooftop reception with stunning views of the Back Bay.

Yalonda Howze, formerly a Member in Mintz’s Litigation Practice, was named Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer at Codiak BioSciences, Inc. Codiak BioSciences is a company at the forefront of advancing engineered exosomes as a new class of biologic medicines.
Steve Akerley, formerly a Member in Mintz's Intellectual Property Practice, joined InterDigital, Inc. as Vice President, Litigation. InterDigital develops mobile and video technologies that are at the core of devices, networks, and services worldwide.
Don Davis, previously an attorney in Mintz's Employment, Labor & Benefits Practice, co-authored the 2019 edition of the LGBTQ Employment Law Practice Guide, an essential resource for employers, practitioners, and employment law professionals.
Mackenzie Meinhold, formerly an attorney in Mintz’s Corporate & Securities Practice, was appointed to the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project’s Junior Board. DCVLP is a nonprofit organization that provides direct legal and advocacy assistance to domestic violence victims, at-risk children, and other vulnerable individuals.
Eric Freeman, previously a Member in Mintz’s Real Estate Practice, joined RK Centers as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. RK Centers is a real estate development company which owns and manages over nine million square feet of commercial retail space, primarily “open air” regional and community shopping centers.
Dionne Lomax, formerly a Member in Mintz’s Antitrust Practice, was named Managing Director of Antitrust and Trade Regulation at Affiliated Monitors, Inc. Affiliated Monitors was founded in 2004 by professionals from the legal, financial, insurance, healthcare, and criminal justice fields to provide independent monitoring services in diverse industries.
