The Situation
Wynn MA, LLC sought to secure a license to build a five-star integrated resort with a casino in Everett, Massachusetts. There were many interconnected steps to this complex process before and during construction, including city approvals, license approvals through a competitive state-run process, and state and local permitting.
The Approach
A Mintz team was selected by Wynn MA to collaborate with them and handle the legal complexities surrounding the licensing and construction of this multifaceted project. To facilitate the approval process of this more than $2 billion project, we put together a cross-sectional team including litigation, environmental, real estate, energy and sustainability, government relations, and public relations attorneys.
The Outcome
The Mintz and ML Strategies team worked through the legislative process, creating a great casino market opportunity in Massachusetts. We devised a strategy for Wynn to obtain city approval and — through a very competitive selection process — be awarded a license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. We continue working with regulators on permitting, and construction is well under way.
