With the growth of the world economy (and social media), citizens, countries and even corporations see how their purchasing and manufacturing choices impact finite natural resources, the extraction of minerals from conflict zones, and income equality. As a result there is mounting pressure from various parts of society to try to curb these apparent adverse impacts through social media campaigns, shareholder resolutions and legislation. In response, international and local corporations are beginning to implement Environmental, Social and Governance policies to address these impacts. However, some are challenging these policies as being contrary to the main goal of corporate policy - maximizing shareholder profits.

Speakers

Jacob H. Hupart is Co-Chair of the ESG Practice Group and a Member in the firm’s Litigation Section. He has a multifaceted litigation practice that encompasses complex commercial litigation, securities litigation — including class action claims — as well as white collar criminal defense and regulatory investigations. His clients sit in a variety of industries, including energy, financial services, education, health care, and the media.
