Daily Journal Names Mintz Member Siegmund Gutman a 2024 ‘Top Intellectual Property Lawyer’
The Daily Journal recently named Mintz Member Siegmund "Sige" Gutman, Life Sciences Litigation Chair and Patent Litigation Co-chair, to its list of “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” for 2024.
The list, published on May 22, was compiled from hundreds of nominations submitted by lawyers in California. Nominees were selected by Daily Journal editors based on the impact of their work in intellectual property.
The publication highlighted Mr. Gutman’s prior victories for clients, including Sanofi Pasteur Inc. and SK Chemicals Co., Ltd in a Federal Circuit appeal against Pfizer, Inc., where all 45 claims in Pfizer’s patent regarding pneumococcal conjugate vaccines were deemed unpatentable. The article states that “Notably, this success was achieved independently of Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., who had won at the PTAB but settled with Pfizer during the appeal.”
The publication also recognized Mr. Gutman for his representation of Amgen Inc. in a case under the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act concerning Amgen’s biosimilar of Johnson & Johnson’s Stelara, a monoclonal antibody drug generating substantial revenue.
Mr. Gutman, whose background includes a graduate degree in molecular and cell biology and biophysical chemistry, has more than 25 years of industry experience including serving as senior patent litigation counsel for Amgen.
Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Gutman joined Mintz on May 6, 2024, along with Member David Hanna and nearly a dozen life sciences patent litigators.
