ESG Co-chair Jacob Hupart was quoted in an Agenda article discussing the increasing emphasis on proactive environmental risk management by corporate boards in response to costly regulatory settlements.
Jacob said, “You might see an immense settlement, but the market could view it as a good thing because the company was able to settle for pennies on the dollar or alleviate potential further litigation. [A settlement may not be reflected in the stock price as] shareholders may perceive management as doing a good job mitigating risk.”
