Mintz Adds IP Litigation Member Tawfik Goma
Mintz announces Tawfik Goma has joined as a Member in the firm’s Miami office. Tawfik is a patent litigator who represents clients before the United States International Trade Commission (ITC), federal district courts, US Customs and Border Protection, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
A technology enthusiast with a background in electrical engineering, Tawfik advises clients across a broad spectrum of technologies, including telecommunications, semiconductor technologies, integrated circuits, graphics and computer processors, wireless power, medical devices, connected health, additive manufacturing and 3D printing, optical components, displays, memory storage devices, and artificial intelligence.
“Tawfik is a great addition to our globally recognized IP practice,” said Robert I. Bodian, Mintz’s Managing Member. “His strong technical background and successful track record at the ITC will enhance our team's ability to meet increasing demand from technology clients with complex IP-related litigation challenges.”
Tawfik began his career in intellectual property as a full-time patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) while attending law school at the George Washington University Law School. He was an Associate at Mintz from 2012-2014 and later served as senior IP counsel to a multinational technology company, where he developed and led global patent licensing and enforcement programs, including successful enforcement and licensing of standard essential patent (SEP) portfolios.
Before rejoining Mintz in 2025, Tawfik founded and served as managing principal of a boutique IP and technology transactions law firm. In this role, he earned recognition as a leading ITC litigator while delivering comprehensive IP and strategic legal counsel to clients across the medical device and high-tech industries.
“The ITC continues to be an important venue for IP disputes, particularly complex patent disputes,” said Michael T. Renaud. “I have worked alongside Tawfik as co-counsel on ITC litigations for many of our high-tech clients. He understands the unique nature of the venue and the technical knowledge and proactive preparation needed to present a compelling case.”
In addition to his practice, Tawfik frequently speaks on business law and IP topics. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Manhattan College’s Accounting, Business Analytics, Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Law Department.
“Mintz has one of the most experienced 337 litigation teams in the country,” said Tawfik Goma. “I look forward to leveraging the firm’s global platform and institutional resources to grow my practice and help clients with their most critical tech and IP matters.”
