Mintz Appoints New Health Care And Enforcement Defense Leadership
BOSTON – Mintz has appointed Brian Dunphy as Co-Chair of the firm’s Health Care Enforcement Defense Group with immediate effect. Brian joins Karen Lovitch, who also serves as Chair of the Health Law Practice, in joint leadership.
The addition of Mr. Dunphy, a False Claims Act litigator, to leadership is reflective of the group’s cross-practice composition and collaborative approach to health care enforcement matters, including investigations and litigation; client teams include both health care subject matter specialists and litigation-focused attorneys. Mr. Dunphy and Ms. Lovitch together will be responsible for managing the practice, client relationship development, and recruiting.
“I am excited to have Brian join me in leadership of the Health Care Enforcement Defense practice,” said Ms. Lovitch. “I have worked extensively with him over the years on everything from high-stakes investigations and litigation to business development initiatives. I am always impressed by his strategic approach, project management skills, and ability to break down complex topics into actionable tactics for clients. It feels like a logical step to bring his skills and insights as a False Claims Act litigator to group leadership.”
Mr. Dunphy defends clients facing government investigations and whistleblower complaints regarding alleged violations of the federal False Claims Act and similar state laws. He also handles commercial litigation involving business disputes for health care, life sciences, and biotechnology companies.
Ms. Lovitch draws from her deep health care regulatory knowledge to provide legal and practical business counsel to clients across the health care and life sciences industries. She represents clients in state and federal government investigations, transactions, and day-to-day regulatory and operational matters.
Mintz’s Health Law practice spans Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. and, in late 2022, welcomed the addition of Health Law specialist Kathryn Edgerton to the firm’s Los Angeles office.
