Mintz Attorney Alex Civetta Receives Pro Bono Award from Lawyers for Civil Rights
Mintz is pleased to share that Associate Alexander Civetta has been named the recipient of the 2020 Pro Bono Award by Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR) for his work with the legal services organization’s BizGrow initiative, which contributes to the economic growth of communities of color by providing free legal support to entrepreneurs with limited resources. Mr. Civetta will be honored at LCR’s annual Civil Rights Reception, to be held virtually on June 25.
LCR’s BizGrow initiative provides free legal assistance, business support, and technical assistance to minority, immigrant, and women business owners on subjects such as entity formation, contracts, and intellectual property. Mr. Civetta is a leader of LCR’s annual BizGrow Conference, to be held virtually this year on July 16, which consists of a one-day legal clinic to support eligible business owners. As part of the conference, Mr. Civetta will be presenting on the basics of contracts and contract law.
Mr. Civetta is a corporate and commercial contracts attorney who advises companies on the intersection of law and business, with an emphasis on technology transactions, licensing, and negotiation. He regularly handles licensing agreements, intellectual property-related agreements, and other transactions for innovators in the software, technology, professional services, and biotechnology industries. He also advises private companies of all sizes on strategic corporate matters.
Headquartered and founded in Boston more than 50 years ago, LCR fosters equal opportunity and fights discrimination on behalf of people of color and immigrants in Massachusetts and surrounding communities through legal action, education, and advocacy in collaboration with law firms and other partners. Notably, LCR has taken on a substantial body of work to address the COVID-19 public health crisis, providing support to families and small businesses affected by the pandemic. Separately, LCR is advocating on behalf of victims of systemic racism and discrimination, including non-violent protestors.
Mintz has a longstanding partnership with LCR. In addition, Mintz Associate Mathilda McGee-Tubb serves as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors.
