Mintz Attorney Karen S. Lovitch to Speak at 2016 G2 Intelligence Lab Institute
Karen S. Lovitch, Leader of the Health Law Practice of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., is speaking at the 2016 G2 Intelligence Lab Institute. The conference is taking place October 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, DC.
In her session, Ms. Lovitch will discuss the current legal and compliance “hotspots” for labs and pathologists, including medical necessity, relationships with referring physicians, and recent fraud and abuse investigations and enforcement actions.
The G2 Intelligence Lab Institute explores the challenges facing laboratories and the health care industry: from FDA regulation of laboratory-developed tests to the move to a market-based payment system ushered in by the Protecting Access to Medicare Act. In light of these rapidly changing dynamics, the conference instructs participants on how to navigate the unprecedented changes and shifting incentives.
Ms. Lovitch counsels laboratories and other health care clients on regulatory, transactional, and operational issues, including Medicare reimbursement, the development and implementation of health care compliance programs, and licensure and certification matters. She also advises clients on the legal, practical, and fraud and abuse implications of business arrangements and sales and marketing practices. Ms. Lovitch regularly counsels on compliance with CLIA and state laboratory licensure laws, federal and state limitations on billing for diagnostic services, and legal restrictions on sales and marketing activities. She has served as regulatory counsel in a number of mergers and acquisitions involving laboratories and diagnostics companies and has represented numerous laboratories and diagnostics companies in state and federal government investigations.
