Mintz Attorney Tyrone P. Thomas to Speak at Division 1A Athletic Directors Association Annual Meeting
Tyrone P. Thomas, a Member of the Sports Law and Employment, Labor and Benefits Practice Groups of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., is speaking on a panel at the Division 1A Athletic Directors Association (D-1A) Annual Meeting. The Association’s meeting will take place September 19-20 in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Thomas will discuss issues and developments regarding student-athlete activism. He will join fellow panelists Mack Rhoades, Athletic Director at Baylor University and Ty Darlington, former student-athlete at University of Oklahoma, along with moderator Jim Phillips, Athletic Director of Northwestern University.
The D-1A is an association of athletic directors of the 129 universities which comprise the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institutions. The D-1A represents the athletic directors and addresses concerns relating to the athletic programs of their respective universities.
Mr. Thomas represents clients on complex legal issues in athletics. In NCAA compliance proceedings, his experience includes enforcement investigations, the infractions process, and appeals. He advises colleges on EEO/Diversity practices, employment contracts, and policies for athletics personnel. He is nationally recognized for his experience in sports matters and has served as a legal analyst for the New York Times, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Sports Business Journal, University Business, and the Sports Litigation Alert.
