Mintz Marks Tenth Anniversary of San Diego Office
Firm Establishes Major Presence Through Civic and Community Minded Strategy and Support of Local Emerging Growth Companies
Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, P.C. is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its dynamic San Diego office, which has expanded significantly over the past decade to become the anchor for the firm’s West Coast presence.
Defying the odds in a highly-competitive legal marketplace, the firm has successfully executed an expansion strategy based on extensive civic and community involvement and staunch support of emerging growth companies fueling the local economy.
“Anytime a firm seeks to enter a new market organically, it faces an uphill battle in today’s fiercely competitive legal marketplace,” said Eddie Wang Rodriguez, Managing Member of the San Diego office and a member of the firm’s Policy Committee. “A decade after opening our doors we have defied the odds and thrived, leveraging our strengths and becoming embedded in the local economy and active civic community. Today, Mintz is not only known as a law firm, but as a true community partner firmly invested in and connected to the city, its organizations and residents.”
Established with a talented group of five San Diego attorneys, four of whom were under the age of 40-years old in 2006, the office has grown to nearly 100 employees with 50-plus attorneys today, making it the tenth largest law firm office in San Diego, with robust intellectual property, corporate, real estate, bankruptcy, litigation and employment law practices supporting the San Diego entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“The entire Mintz San Diego team of attorneys and professionals should be proud of what they have accomplished over the last ten years,” said Bob Bodian, Mintz Managing Member. “Their hard work and collaboration with their colleagues across all of the firm’s offices has resulted in the ability to better serve our clients on the West Coast and beyond.
Leveraging its bi-coastal strengths representing emerging growth companies, the firm has become a significant supporter of local entrepreneurs and the San Diego start-up community, having worked closely with area incubators, including EvoNexus, the Zahn Innovation Platform (ZIP) Launchpad at San Diego State University, The Basement, a startup incubator at University of California San Diego, and CyberHive, to provide the resources and counsel needed to develop and grow scores of successful businesses. The firm has also sought to play an active role in the San Diego community at large, encouraging office-wide civic mindedness and widespread service as board members of local trade organizations and nonprofits; through investing in local companies and by volunteering in both legal and non-legal capacities.
“The Honor Foundation has relied heavily on our relationship with Mintz as integral to our business, mentorship programs, fundraising and the ultimate success of the unique military community we serve,” explains Joe Musselman, CEO and Founder of THF. “Mintz has been supporting THF since our founding in 2013 and we're now a national organization in less than three years. The firm has influenced our business and impacted the lives of countless Navy SEALS and Special Operators to date. The partnership with Mintz is a tremendous affirmation of our long-term vision to continue to increase the impact of our organization nationwide."
Mintz designed its local offices, located hillside above I-5 and the I- 56 bypass with the San Diego community in mind. The firm regularly provides meeting and event space for local San Diego companies, trade organizations and not for profit organizations in an effort to support community growth and prosperity in the San Diego region. The Mintz San Diego office has been referred to as the hub of the local business community by making their conference space available and with its unique location in the center of the county, equal distance from the border to the south and Oceanside to the north.
As part of these efforts, Mintz has championed extensive pro bono work for San Diego-based organizations, including providing legal support to victims of domestic violence as well as efforts to protect minors from convicted sex offenders. In addition, the office, which has a number of veterans among its lawyers and staff, has supported numerous local military and veteran-related causes, such as The Honor Foundation, regularly providing pro bono assistance and education to veteran entrepreneurs.
