Mintz Represents T-Mobile before FCC in SpaceX Commercial Direct-to-Smartphone Service Agreement
Mintz represented T-Mobile before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) related to the company’s provision of supplemental coverage from space (SCS) in cooperation with its partner in this venture – SpaceX. The new service will give T-Mobile customers the ability to communicate in areas where there is no traditional cell phone coverage.
The FCC signed off on SpaceX providing this service using its Starlink satellites on November 26, 2024. The agency noted that the SCS services provided by SpaceX “will yield many benefits, including an increase in access to emergency services in areas where consumers would otherwise not have the capability to access a terrestrial network to call or text 911, as evidenced, for example, through SpaceX’s provision of emergency SCS in areas affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.”
The Mintz team included Technology, Communications & Media Chair Angela Kung, Member Russell Fox, and Of Counsel Christen B’anca Glenn.
