Mintz Supports Public International Law & Policy Group to Help Achieve Comprehensive Peace Agreement in the Sudan
Mintz is proud to share its support of the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG), a global pro bono law firm, and its effort to provide legal assistance to parties involved in peace negotiations in the Sudan. For the past several years, the Mintz team has been among PILPG’s many trusted advisors in its role as the primary drafters of the historic, comprehensive peace agreement.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to support PILPG and play even a small part towards peace for the people of Sudan,” said Mintz Member and Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee Susan Finegan. “Mintz’s commitment to helping our broader community and achieving long-lasting change aligns so well with PILPG’s mission, and we are thrilled to see this outcome for the people of Sudan and Darfur.”
Mintz’s partnership with PILPG started with Member Matthew T. Simpson’s previous work for the global pro bono law firm, including designing war crimes witness protection programs in Uganda, amending Iraq’s constitution, and advising on issues of state succession that led to the establishment of the Republic of South Sudan. In addition, Mr. Simpson was a founder of PILPG’s Darfur Project and previously spent two years embedded with the Darfuri delegation at the 2011 Doha Peace Talks as their UN-appointed Principal Legal Advisor. Notably, for his dedication and ongoing counsel to PILPG, in February 2020, Mr. Simpson was named a PILPG Senior Peace Fellow.
Mintz has an unwavering commitment to providing outstanding pro bono services. The firm partners with nonprofits, legal service organizations, in-house legal departments, and other law firms to provide life-changing assistance for individuals in need.
