Mintz’s Joel Papernik to Moderate Panel on Shareholder Activism at 2015 BIO International Convention
Joel I. Papernik, a Member of the Corporate & Securities Practice of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., will lead a panel discussion on shareholder activism at the 2015 BIO International Convention as part of the conference’s Business Development & Finance track on June 18th at 1pm at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Papernik’s panel is entitled, “Managing Your Response to Activist Shareholders.” The panel will describe common approaches taken by shareholder activists in the biotech space and addresses various ways in which companies can prepare themselves for activism, including potential responses to activist demands. The panel will also include discussion on proxy advisory firms, and best practices for communicating with shareholders and engaging with potential activists. Working with an investment banker in this context will also be covered.
Panelists include Barrett Golden, Partner at Joele Frank; Sven Pfeiffer, Managing Director in the M&A Healthcare Group at Lazard; Spiro Rombotis, CEO of Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals; and Jonathan Salzberger, Director at Innisfree M&A Inc.

Mr. Papernik’s practice concentrates on corporate, commercial, and securities matters as well as strategic transactions and corporate structuring. In addition to guiding numerous domestic mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and public offerings to successful conclusions, he has served as US counsel to several overseas firms in connection with establishing operations, their conduct of public offerings, and their acquisitions in the United States
