Mintz’s Private Equity Practice Appoints New Leadership
BOSTON – Mintz has appointed Members Gregory Fine and Matthew T. Simpson to co-lead the Private Equity practice alongside current chair, Kurt Steinkrauss. The change is effective immediately.
Under the new leadership structure, John Pomerance, a co-founder of the firm’s Private Equity practice, will become Chair Emeritus of the Private Equity practice and continue with his private equity, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions practices. Together, Mr. Fine, Mr. Simpson, and Mr. Steinkrauss will manage the practice, including developing client relationships, growing the business, and further building out the team.
Mintz’s Private Equity practice now has more than 50 attorneys across the firm’s six U.S. offices. The move comes after years of significant growth for the practice, including this past year when 50% of all M&A transactions handled by Mintz were Private Equity related. Recently, the team closed a quartet of deals in a short period of time.
Mr. Fine, practicing out of the Boston office, is a private equity and mergers and acquisitions attorney who focuses on representing private equity funds, family offices and their portfolio companies in complex acquisitions, divestitures, recapitalizations, restructurings and “shared-control” deals. Greg brings a commercial, pragmatic and solutions-oriented perspective to his client’s transactions.
Meanwhile, Mr. Simpson, practicing out of the Washington, D.C. office, serves as a strategic counselor to his clients, leading teams that structure, negotiate, and execute various transactional arrangements, with a particular focus on private equity mergers and acquisitions involving founder-run businesses. Mr. Simpson’s clients include global co-mingled private equity funds and large family offices, as well as revenue-generating businesses targeting a private equity exit.
“We are in growth mode, and these changes are a reflection of this,” said Mr. Steinkrauss. “Since establishing this practice almost two decades ago, John Pomerance and I, with the assistance of a number of talented colleagues, have worked hard to build it to what it is today. With an eye on the future, this new iteration of leadership is prompted by the significant growth of the practice in way of client roster and deal teams, and draws on the bedrock that we established. Both Matt and Greg have led a significant volume of matters for clients in recent years, representing our marquis private equity clients. They, along with our full bench, have the passion and dedication to continue bringing this practice from strength to strength. I’m excited to see what the future brings for our entire team.”
As part of the change, Member Joseph Ronca will lead the firm’s New York private equity efforts, while Robert Burwell will continue to lead the firm’s California private equity presence.
Building on its market recognition, Mintz’s Private Equity Practice has responded to the demands of sophisticated clients by enhancing the firm’s tax, debt finance, health, executive compensation, and investment funds capabilities with the recent hirings of Members Gregg Benson, Kathryn Edgerton, Ari Feder, Kari Harris, Benjamin Ferrucci, Louis Mercedes, Timothy Santoli, and Stephen Osborn, as well as the promotions of corporate attorneys Matthew Gautier and Talia Primor to Members of the firm.
