New York, NY – Mintz is pleased to announce that Crain’s New York Business has named Member Suman Chakraborty to its 2022 Notable LGBTQ Leaders list. The list celebrates 95 LGBTQ professionals in New York City who are making a major impact through their career accomplishments, their mentorship of others, and their involvement in community and industry organizations. The honorees represent all manner of industries and occupations, including media, finance, government, health care, professional services, tech, and the arts.

Mr. Chakraborty is a Chambers-ranked and industry-recognized first-chair litigator with two decades of experience advocating for major insurers and reinsurers in high-value arbitrations, and in state and federal court litigation across the country.

Crain’s profile highlights Mr. Chakraborty’s successful representation of LGBTQ and HIV+ political asylum applications in U.S. Immigration Courts and the drafting of an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court in support of the rights of adoptive same-sex parents. It also notes his role on the Board of Directors of the Stonewall Community Foundation, a leading LGBTQ philanthropical organization, and MCC Theater, one of New York's leading nonprofit Off-Broadway companies. Previously, Mr. Chakraborty served for eight years on the Board of the National LGBTQ Task Force, the country’s oldest national advocacy organization, including as its Co-Chair.

After coming out 30 years ago, Mr. Chakraborty learned that representation and storytelling are key to the community’s progress. Over the course of his career, he has sought out opportunities to be visible in spaces where LGBTQ people have often been invisible and has been active in organizations where he could also highlight his experiences as a person of color. Mr. Chakraborty recently authored an article for the New York Law Journal titled “Finding My Way: A Journey to the First Chair as an LGBTQ+ Partner of Color,” which describes his journey to becoming a first-chair litigator as an LGBTQ+ attorney of color.
