BOSTON – Mintz announces that Associate Nicholas (“Nick”) A. Butto is the recipient of the firm’s 2024 Richard Mintz Pro Bono Award. Presented each year by Mintz’s Pro Bono Committee, this award recognizes one attorney who exhibits exceptional dedication to pro bono work.

Nick’s pro bono practice features immigration and gender-based violence matters. A determined advocate for domestic violence survivors, Nick has worked in collaboration with Sanctuary for Families in New York on five such cases this past year. He also represented several compelling political asylum clients in Boston and New York.  

 “Nick’s commitment to pro bono work is admirable,” said Susan Finegan, Member and Chair of Mintz’s Pro Bono Committee “Not only does he work tirelessly to obtain successful outcomes for his own clients, but he has also been instrumental in proactively recruiting other colleagues to join him in pro bono efforts.”

In addition to his extensive pro bono work, Nick is actively engaged in his legal practice which focuses on complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, employment litigation, products liability matters, and government enforcement proceedings. He has experience guiding clients through all stages of litigation and arbitration, including motion practice, e-discovery efforts, hearing and trial preparation, and settlement negotiations. His practice also encompasses advising clients on government and internal investigations.

The Richard Mintz Pro Bono Award is named in honor of Richard Mintz, the son of one of the firm’s founders, who embodied the generous spirit of Mintz and was a strong supporter of the firm’s pro bono contributions.

Pro bono service is at the heart of Mintz’s culture and identity. The firm partners with nonprofits, legal services organizations, in-house legal departments, and other law firms to provide life-changing assistance for individuals in need. Mintz attorneys worked on more than 300 pro bono cases in the past year, contributing over 20,000 hours to support issues including asylum, gender violence, civil and human rights, substance use, and nonprofit assistance.
