For Second Consecutive Year, Mintz Invites Students to Become “Lawyer for a Day”
For the second consecutive year, Mintz will host its “Lawyer for a Day” event in its Los Angeles office on March 5. During the event, approximately 30 middle school students from New Los Angeles Charter School, a Title One school, will gain a first-hand impression of what lawyers do, and be able to interact with attorneys and in-house counsel.
Mintz will offer the students the ability to participate in interactive learning activities to understand how the legal system works and the role that different types of lawyers play. Some of the firm’s lawyers will give brief presentations about their career trajectory, speak one-on-one with students and provide insight into life as in-house counsel.
A number of external in-house counsel will join as guests to participate in a Q&A, including: Eniola Akinrinade, Associate Counsel, Labor and Employment at Live Nation Entertainment; Rebecka Biejo, Chief Compliance Officer & Deputy GC at Pilgrim Media; Shawane Lee, Senior Counsel at Southern California Gas; and Brenda Galvan, Deputy District Attorney at Los Angeles District Attorney.
“I am excited to host the New Los Angeles Charter School again this year to allow the next-generation to learn in real-time what the legal profession is all about,” said Joshua Briones, Managing Member of Mintz’s Los Angeles office. “My career path was unique so I am proud to offer this opportunity for us to once again encourage kids from all backgrounds to reach for their goals and pursue careers that may be outside the norm.”
Mr. Briones knows how important it is to have guidance and mentorship. He grew up in California, the son of immigrant parents who worked in the fields. At the encouragement of his community college counselor, he considered a career in law. Today, he is a lauded litigator who has served as lead defense counsel on more than 400 alleged class actions.
