Tyrone P. Thomas to Chair Mintz’s Diversity Committee
Tyrone P. Thomas, of the Employment, Labor & Benefits Section of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has been named Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. Mr. Thomas has served as Co-Chair of MIATTY, Mintz’s Minority Attorneys Group, a position he has held since 2010.
The Diversity Committee is responsible for leading the firm’s ongoing efforts in advancing and promoting diversity in the firm’s vision, culture, business, mission, policies, and practices. In addition to focusing on expanding opportunities at the firm for attorneys and staff who are of color, women, or part of the LGBT community, the committee is committed to promoting diversity in the legal profession and throughout the community. The committee also works with clients to further these worthy goals.

In his legal practice, Mr. Thomas advises boards, presidents, and other senior executives on terms for employment and consulting agreements. He counsels on best practices for compensation, benefits, and post-employment covenants for executive contracts of large nonprofit organizations, including health care systems, foundations, trade associations and universities. In the course of his practice, Mr. Thomas has advised on executive employment arrangements involving over 150 academic institutions.
Mr. Thomas also advises universities on employment matters for athletics personnel and has successfully negotiated the reduction of various NCAA penalties. In professional sports matters, he has advised teams on legal and league compliance issues. He frequently serves as a legal analyst on sports issues, including for the New York Times and ESPN.
