EPA Water Pollution Memo Gets Icy Reception From All Sides

In an article published by Bloomberg Law, Mintz Member and Chair of the firm’s Environmental Law Practice Jeffrey R. Porter criticized draft guidance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) clarifying permitting requirements for pollution discharges into federal waters, which was issued in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s April ruling in Country of Maui v. Hawaii Wildlife Fund.
Kim V. Marrkand, Mintz Member and Founder and Co-chair of the firm’s Insurance Practice, authored an article published in The Brief by the American Bar Association, regarding the American Law Institute (ALI)’s Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance. The article traces the history of the Restatement and how the ALI’s “fractured” process, which included revising the rules governing Restatements and rewriting well-settled laws of liability insurance, justifies skepticism by both the bench and bar as to its reliability.
Legal Industry Forms Fund to Honor Late Chief Justice Ralph Gants

The Boston Globe covered the launch of the Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants Access to Justice Fund, a collaboration between the Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants Access to Justice Fund Advisory Committee, Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, which will support initiatives to advance access to justice, racial equity, and criminal justice reform in the legal system.

Amazon’s Pharmacy Venture Opens New Privacy, Security Law Risks

In Bloomberg Law, Mintz Member Dianne Bourque commented on some of the state and federal privacy laws protecting patient data that Amazon will have to navigate with the launch of its new online pharmacy business.
An article published by the ABA Journal featured nonprofit Building for Good, Inc. (B4G), founded and led by Mintz Member and Co-chair of the firm’s Construction Law Practice William M. Hill, which links other nonprofits and charities with skilled pro bono construction lawyers. The article detailed some of B4G’s pilot projects in Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New Jersey, and included commentary from Mr. Hill on the organization’s mission and growing membership.
