Update on DHS’s Trusted Traveler Programs Suspension for New York Residents
Late last week, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that all pending applications for Trusted Traveler Programs filed by residents of New York will be cancelled and refunds issued.
Applicants who have received a conditional approval will no longer be able to schedule an appointment at an enrollment center to complete their interviews, nor will they be able to participate in enrollment on arrival. Applicants who scheduled interviews prior to the ban, which was announced and took effect on February 5, 2020, will also be prevented from completing their final interviews. Refunds will be issued to all conditionally approved applicants.
New York is one of 15 states and territories that have passed Green Light laws; others include California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, Nevada, and the District of Columbia.
In response to the suspension, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that the State of New York will sue the federal government for “unfairly targeting New York residents in a politically motivated move with no legal rationale.”
