Ian is an intellectual property strategist and litigator.
He advises life sciences companies throughout complex IP disputes, particularly those related to biotechnologies, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. He regularly litigates patent disputes, including those under the Hatch-Waxman Act and Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA). He also counsels clients on their freedom to operate and launch strategies.
Ian recently advised a global biotechnology company in a patent infringement action concerning the launch of a biosimilar to Stelara® (ustekinumab), a blockbuster biologic with annual sales close to $10 billion. As a law student, he drafted appellate briefs and a writ of certiorari to the US Supreme Court. He also argued before the DC Circuit.
Ian previously worked in many disciplines across the biomedical sciences. He worked with a consulting firm advising global pharmaceutical companies on research and development, a basic science lab investigating novel small-molecule therapeutics, and a health technology group directing clinical trials. His work has been presented at national conferences and published in leading academic journals, including New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst and ACS Chemical Neuroscience.
