Shuo focuses her practice on Canadian, US, and international patent prosecution, primarily for innovations in the chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical fields. She also regularly advises clients on validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate issues and provides litigation support. Shuo works with start-ups, universities, research institutes, and multinational corporations in the life sciences, oil & gas, and other industries.
Prior to joining Mintz, Shuo practiced at a Canadian intellectual property law firm as an attorney and patent agent registered in the United States and Canada. In addition to her practice, she regularly co-authored articles on patent protection and life sciences issues.
In law school, Shuo participated in an IP-related externship at the Structural Genomics Consortium.
Before beginning her legal career, while pursuing graduate studies in organic chemistry, Shuo designed and synthesized a series of small molecules aimed at the treatment of breast cancer and leukemia. Her research also focused on the synthesis of bacterial natural product analogs for drug design and development.
