Holistic Benefits and Resources

  Return to Women's Initiative

Inclusive benefit programs that address all aspects of employees’ lives reinforce our supportive, collaborative culture. Along with forward-thinking work-life balance and leave policies, we offer an array of initiatives and services that foster well-being for employees and their families. From fitness discounts to counseling to financial education to resources for caregivers, we continually create resources that help employees advance their personal and professional goals.

Compassionate Leave

Our pioneering compassionate leave policy, available to attorneys and professional staff, provides paid leave in the event of an employee’s miscarriage or after failed surrogacy, adoption, or fertility treatment.

Family-Building Benefits

As part of our commitment to supporting all of our employees in their family-formation journeys, we offer a combined lifetime benefit of up to $25,000 towards egg or sperm freezing, adoption, and surrogacy. Our coverage includes fertility preservation for non-medical reasons, including one year of storage costs.

Ramp-Down/Ramp-Up Policy

Attorneys, Patent Agents, and Technical Advisors are eligible for additional time off prior to and after all types of qualifying leaves, which are typically for health or family reasons. The policy provides pre-leave time for appointments and other matters associated with the leave and a reduced schedule for 12 weeks post-leave.

Origination Credit Policy

One of the first in the market to do so, Mintz changed its origination credit system in 2015 so that no attorney would be awarded more than 75% of credit, and that the rest would be shared among the team that aided in developing or originating the client relationship.

Flexible Work Arrangements and True-Up Policy

To foster both professional development and well-being, the firm has an established program that enables attorneys, Patent Agents, and Technical Advisors to formalize reduced or non-traditional work schedules. Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) are individually tailored and designed to support the needs of the individual. As part of our FWA program, eligible employees can now receive a true-up bonus if they work billable hours materially in excess of their reduced hours expectation (at least 5% above their expectation). Compensating employees when they go above and beyond promotes professional development, supports diversity, and respects employees’ personal commitments. Providing this true-up bonus to eligible attorneys, Patent Agents, and Technical Advisors helps align compensation with our employees’ valuable contributions.

Leaves for New Parents

The firm offers generous leave policies for parents upon the birth of a child, adoption, or foster care placement. Birth mothers and primary caregivers in the US can take up to 18 consecutive weeks of fully paid leave inclusive of disability benefits, while secondary caregivers can take up to 8 weeks of fully paid leave, in both cases within the first year of welcoming the child. In Canada, birth mothers and non-birth parents are eligible for a combined maximum of 63 weeks of leave, including Mintz and government benefits.

Extended Parental Leave

Following their paid leave period, new parents in the US can request unpaid time off for a total of up to 12 consecutive months of leave. Like other parental leaves, this policy is available in connection with the birth of a child, an adoption, or a foster care placement.

Technology Resources & Support

In addition to issuing laptops, the firm facilitates remote work by providing an allowance for home office equipment and subsidizing the periodic replacement of cellular telephones.

Fitness and Health Clubs

Across the firm, employees have access to discounted gym memberships, on-site fitness centers, or both. In several offices, we also offer discounts on bike share programs.

Financial Education

Our 401(k) Savings Plan provider and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) program offer videos, seminars, and coaching on a broad spectrum of topics that support our employees’ savings and financial goals, including creating a financial plan, money management, how to set a course to attain financial savings milestones (such as paying off student debt and purchasing a home), investing for retirement, estate planning, and creating an investment portfolio. Our 401(k) partner also offers one-on-one meetings, both virtually and with financial planners and specialists at investment centers close to each of our offices. We supplement this learning through an annual financial education presentation series and firm-wide webinars on topics like financial empowerment for women.

Wellness and Lifestyle Discounts

Comprehensive discount programs promote well-being through savings on a wide array of products and services. Some of the many offerings focus on fitness equipment, wellness subscriptions, meal services, insurance, entertainment, and travel.

Nurturing Work-Life Balance

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) contains a wealth of resources to help employees and attorneys enhance all aspects of their lives. Through personal and professional coaching, articles, and self-help tools, employees can tackle challenges and boost their skills. Along with mental health–related services, our EAP offerings encompass professional training, financial and legal topics, instruction on effective communications principles, and more.

Personal Balance Education and Support

Mintz employees and their dependents can receive help from a 24/7 call center, short-term counseling, and referrals to local therapists. A curated library of trustworthy videos, articles, and tools also supplies valuable information on issues like resilience, stress, grief, anxiety, and depression. In addition, the firm hosts an annual eight-week Mindfulness at Work program and a yearly Well-Being in Law Week to promote balance and self-care, as well as regular in-office meditation sessions. As part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to all aspects of well-being, Mintz sponsors the Institute for Well-Being in Law and is a signatory of the American Bar Association (ABA) Well-Being Pledge.

Domestic Partner Benefits

Domestic partners can be covered by our medical, dental, and vision plans.

Caregiver Resources

Through multiple service providers, we equip employees with a variety of care-related resources. Child care benefits include subsidized backup child care, in-home care, exclusive access to child care centers, camps, and tutoring. Adult care options include backup care, companionship in the home or for appointments, and daily living assistance. Employees can also access caregiver counseling and referral services, as well as online research tools.

Resources for Families

Our continually updated directory of resources imparts knowledge on all aspects of parenting, covering infancy, early childhood development, health and safety for kids, work-life balance for parents, schooling issues, and more. Through our health plans, expecting and new parents can access childbirth classes, free breast pumps, lactation counseling, and well-baby visits.

Lactation-Related Resources

Designated lactation space and support are available across all of our offices, providing private areas for employees to nurse or pump breast milk and store milk safely. Attorneys can also seek reimbursement for breast milk shipping expenses arising from business travel.
