Mintz Secures Asylum for Pro Bono Client

Mintz secured asylum for a pro bono client who suffered severe violence for several years at the hands of her partner and a gang in Honduras.

In 2019, the client fled to the US with her daughters. In the years following, the gang murdered the client’s sister and her former partner.

At the client’s hearing in September, the DHS attorney staunchly opposed Mintz’s application for asylum.  Over five hours after the hearing started, the judge read his oral decision and revealed that Mintz’s team had proven all requisite elements and he granted asylum.

Mintz is proud to have secured asylum for this client and her daughters who will now be able to stay in the US, away from abuse and with access to a network of support.

The Mintz team included Associates Nick Butto and Liz Platonova, along with Associate Bianca Bernardi and Project Analyst Caroline Koclanes.

Pro Bono remains intrinsic to Mintz’s values and identity.
