Monthly TCPA Digest – January 2020

We are pleased to present our latest Monthly TCPA Digest, providing insights and news related to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). In this first edition of 2020, we cover breaking news that the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a potentially game-changing TCPA case, William P. Barr et al. v. American Association of Political Consultants et al. See our article for details on this case and Facebook, Inc. v. Noah Duguid, et al. Later this month, the Court will decide whether to also hear the Facebook case, which raises TCPA-related First Amendment issues.

In legislative news, the landmark Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act (Pallone-Thune TRACED Act) — a far-ranging law intended to reduce robocalls and spoofed calls — has finally been signed into law. See our chart for a breakdown of important TRACED Act deadlines, and read our regulatory section for an update on activity at the FCC.
