Geoffrey has a multifaceted corporate practice focused on financial services, technology, alternative assets, and the digital economy. He advises clients on structuring and formation, compliance and regulatory matters, corporate governance, registration, capital raising, and related transactions. His clients include issuers, a broad spectrum of traditional and alternative financial services entities, and Canadian and US companies or financial sponsors seeking cross-border expansion.
Geoffrey has significant experience representing issuers, asset managers, investment dealers, portfolio managers, private equity firms, and venture capital sponsors. Much of his work focuses on helping clients access diverse asset classes and alternative products, including private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, real estate, private debt, and digital tokens and currencies.
Prior to joining Mintz, Geoffrey was a partner at a Toronto-based law firm, where he led the firm’s digital economy initiatives focused on matters involving the fintech sector and blockchain technology. For several years, he served as general counsel to a Canadian asset manager specializing in exchange-traded products.
In addition to his practice, Geoffrey serves as a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s (OSC) Fintech Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to the organization on fintech developments and challenges facing innovative securities businesses. He is also supervising counsel for the Osgoode Hall Venture Clinic, an entity focused on providing legal advice to start-ups, and an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Before law school, Geoffrey worked as a financial advisor in the private client group at a major Canadian financial institution.
