Maarten concentrates his practice on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, general corporate matters, and commercial contracts. He primarily represents private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in buyouts, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and restructurings. He also represents companies and founders in mergers and acquisitions in a wide variety of industries, including health care, financial services, construction, hospitality, and retailers.
Prior to joining Mintz, Maarten served as an associate in the New York offices of two US-based global law firms, where he worked on a broad range of private equity and M&A matters. Earlier, he was a corporate and antitrust associate at a top-tier international law firm based in Amsterdam.
Maarten also maintains an active pro bono practice that has included advising nonprofit organizations focused on family homelessness and the LGBTQ community in New York and assisting clemency petitioners and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applicants.
Experience
- Represented Monomoy Capital Partners in multiple transactions, including its platform acquisitions of Japs-Olson Company, a commercial printing and distribution company (recognized in Mergers & Acquisitions’ 2024 Middle-Market Deals of the Year rankings), Southern Exteriors, an installer of residential exterior building products, and Artesian Spas, a manufacturer of hot tubs, swim spas, and related products, as well as add-on acquisitions such as Marquis Hot Tubs and Nordic Hot Tubs, two additional manufacturers in the hot tub space.
- Represented Marquee Dental, a dental services organization and a portfolio company of Chicago Pacific Founders, in multiple acquisitions of dental and periodontal practices.
- Represented Azenta Life Sciences (NASDAQ: AZTA) (formerly Brooks Automation, Inc.), a leading provider of life sciences solutions worldwide, in the sale of its Semiconductor Solutions business to private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. for $3B in cash.
- Represented Altamira Technologies Corporation, a portfolio company of ClearSky, on its acquisition of Virginia Systems & Technology, Inc., a signals intelligence mission business.
- Represented SILAC, a leading U.S. annuity provider, in connection with multiple corporate transactions, including a minority investment by Hildene Capital Management, LLC.
- Represented Qoros, an up-and-coming growth partner for cardiology groups backed by Chicago Pacific Founders, in connection with the acquisitions of multiple cardiology practices.
- Represented Myriad Genetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: MYGN), a molecular diagnostic company, in its sale of Myriad RBM, Inc., which specializes in contract research services for the pharmaceutical industry, to Q2 Solutions.
